We charge $0.08 (plus tax) per 1000 stitches for our embroidery thread and $0.20 (plus tax) per stabilizer sheet.
All embroidery on this machine must be done with the needles, thread, and stabilizer provided by the library - please do not bring your own. Material used in the embroidery machine must not be thicker than 3mm.
Stitch patterns are made using the Artistic Digitizer software on one of our PCs. Creating a stitch pattern can be a little complicated, so we recommend watching tutorials before coming in for your booking. Some videos and playlists we recommend:
- Janome Memory Craft 500E Instructional DVD - video from the DVD that comes with the embroidery machine
- Artistic Digitizer - playlist of instructional videos explaining how to use Artistic Digitizer to create stitch patterns.
- Memory Craft 500E/Memory Craft 450E/Memory Craft 400E - playlist of videos about the embroidery machine
While we do have some scrap fabric available, it's not generally suitable for embroidery projects, so you should bring the material that you want to embroider. It's a good idea to do some research into embroidery and the benefits and disadvantages of different fabrics before starting your project and buying your fabric. Embroidery machine projects tend to take significant time and effort, so it's best to be prepared.
Please do NOT bring scissors, pins, or other sharp objects or tools to Millennium Library - they will be confiscated at the security gate and you will not be able to bring them in. The ideaMILL has scissors, pins, and other tools available. If you have questions about what accessories we have available, call us at 204-986-5543 or email ideamill@winnipeg.ca
