Writing Craft: Darrel J. McLeod

Memoir Writing: Getting to the Heartwood

In this workshop, inspired by Betsy Warland’s teachings (from both her course on memoir writing and her book Breathing the Page on the act of writing), Darrel J. McLeod, author of Peyakow will walk through the process of “laying track” or getting into flow when doing the first draft of a story or chapter so that the text comes from a deep place from the very start. Darrel will describe and utilize simple exercises to facilitate this and then describe a process of gently and sensitively sculpting one’s own text to refine voice, and to be left with elements of their life story in a way that makes the telling of it compelling.

Writing Craft workshops give all interested writers, whatever their experience, a chance to soak up the expertise of some of the amazing writers featured at THIN AIR 2021. Each workshop is 90 minutes long. These workshops are presented by the Winnipeg International Writers Festival with support from Taylor McCaffrey and The Winnipeg Public Library.

These workshops are free and offered online through Zoom. Register online through The Winnipeg International Writers Festival.
