You, Of All People: Writing Character-Driven Fiction
OnlineWhat makes a character come to life? How can fiction writers create characters that are compelling, complex, and just unpredictable enough to keep us turning the page? Led by Writer-in-Residence Anna Leventhal, this workshop will introduce participants to a few approaches to writing characters who will stick in readers’ minds. Using a variety of exercises, we’ll explore POV, diction, dialogue, and other craft elements that help shape character. Whether you’re kicking off NaNoWriMo or looking to breathe new life into a character you’ve been working with for a while, this workshop will get the gears turning. No particular writing background is required; while the focus of this workshop will be prose fiction, writers in other disciplines are welcome to participate. This program is open to Manitoba residents only.
