Genealogy and Family History at Library and Archives Canada

This presentation will provide a brief introduction to Library and Archives Canada’s (LAC) vast collections and highlight the services and resources available at LAC’s service point in Winnipeg. Archivists David Cuthbert and David Horky will provide an overview of LAC’s databases and tools supporting genealogy research as well as opportunities to engage with LAC’s various teams and collections.

Cet exposé présentera un survol des vastes collections de Bibliothèque et Archives Canada (BAC), ainsi que les ressources et les services offerts au point de services de BAC à Winnipeg. Les archivistes David Cuthbert et David Horky donneront un aperçu des bases de données et des outils de BAC pouvant aider à mener des recherches en généalogie. Ils décriront aussi les divers moyens d’entrer en contact avec les équipes et les collections de l’institution.

Public Program Registration Guidelines

  • An email address is required to register for all programs. If you do not have an email address, register by calling or visiting any Library branch.
  • Duplicate registrations for the same name will be cancelled.
  • The Library reserves the right to limit the number of program attendees.
  • Family programs including Baby Rhyme Time, Toddler Time, Family Story Time, and 3-5 with a caregiver programs are an opportunity for caregivers to participate together with their child in the program.
  • School age programs are for children ages 6-8, 6-12, or 9-12. Children attend on their own unless otherwise indicated. Teen programs are for Grades 7-12.
  • Programs with children ages 11 and younger require a caregiver to remain in the library during the program. In the absence of a caregiver, the Library does not assume responsibility for a child.
  • Children are not supervised by library staff outside of the program space (e.g. washroom breaks or leaving the program early exit from the program).
  • Children of all abilities are welcome to attend Library programs. If the child requires the support of a caregiver to participate in a program, please speak with staff.
  • Online library programs use Zoom. Please familiarize yourself with Zoom before the program.
