Words and Music: the Stories Behind the Books

Celebrated music historian John Einarson will share an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the making of his most beloved works in the world of music and writing from his latest book Words and Music. In this reflective and revealing book, he revisits the iconic musicians and bands he has chronicled over the years—from Neil Young to Randy Bachman, Buffalo Springfield to The Flying Burrito Brothers, Steppenwolf to Love, and The Byrds to Ian & Sylvia. With rare anecdotes, personal reflections, and insights into his meticulous research process, Einarson shares the challenges and joys of bringing these legendary stories to life.

Born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Einarson is an award-winning author of nineteen music biographies with many on the Globe and Mail bestseller list, and several ranked among the top ten music biographies.

Public Program Registration Guidelines

  • An email address is required to register for all programs. If you do not have an email address, register by calling or visiting any Library branch.
  • Duplicate registrations for the same name will be cancelled.
  • The Library reserves the right to limit the number of program attendees.
  • Family programs including Baby Rhyme Time, Toddler Time, Family Story Time, and 3-5 with a caregiver programs are an opportunity for caregivers to participate together with their child in the program.
  • School age programs are for children ages 6-8, 6-12, or 9-12. Children attend on their own unless otherwise indicated. Teen programs are for Grades 7-12.
  • Programs with children ages 11 and younger require a caregiver to remain in the library during the program. In the absence of a caregiver, the Library does not assume responsibility for a child.
  • Children are not supervised by library staff outside of the program space (e.g. washroom breaks or leaving the program early exit from the program).
  • Children of all abilities are welcome to attend Library programs. If the child requires the support of a caregiver to participate in a program, please speak with staff.
  • Online library programs use Zoom. Please familiarize yourself with Zoom before the program.
