Smartphones for Life classes - Android

Empower yourself through digital literacy! Bring your Android smartphone to this course of 11 classes to learn about:  

  • adding and removing apps
  • setting up google and email accounts
  • managing contacts
  • exploring the Google Play store
  • security and privacy tips
  • managing notifications
  • using your phone's camera

Classes are Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 1:30-3:30 p.m. (11 classes in total. No class on Tuesday, November 11.) Classes start Tuesday, November 4 and end on Thursday, November 27. Classes are at Millennium Library, in the Buchwald Room on the second floor.

A CLB of 5 and above is recommended for participants with English as an Additional Language.

Offered in partnership with Altered Minds Inc. Participants will be contacted by Altered Minds to confirm skill level and language requirements. If the program is full, please contact the partner here to be added to a waitlist for future sessions. 

Participants are expected to attend all 11 classes. Please cancel your registration in advance if you are unable to attend. No-show registrants may be denied spots in future workshops.

Public Program Registration Guidelines

  • An email address is required to register for all programs. If you do not have an email address, register by calling or visiting any Library branch.
  • Duplicate registrations for the same name will be cancelled.
  • The Library reserves the right to limit the number of program attendees.
  • Family programs including Baby Rhyme Time, Toddler Time, Family Story Time, and 3-5 with a caregiver programs are an opportunity for caregivers to participate together with their child in the program.
  • School age programs are for children ages 6-8, 6-12, or 9-12. Children attend on their own unless otherwise indicated. Teen programs are for ages 13-17.
  • Programs with children ages 11 and younger require a caregiver to remain in the library during the program. In the absence of a caregiver, the Library does not assume responsibility for a child.
  • Children are not supervised by library staff outside of the program space (e.g. washroom breaks or leaving the program early exit from the program).
  • Children of all abilities are welcome to attend Library programs. If the child requires the support of a caregiver to participate in a program, please speak with staff.
  • Online library programs use Zoom. Please familiarize yourself with Zoom before the program.
